Great place for families

The rooms are clean and tidy. The hostess is always available to help with what is needed. Welcoming for small kids. The balconies have amazing view to the sea. The sea is just 5 min walk. Worthy for the price.

Learn to treat your guests!

Hospitality explained shortly on the last day of our stay:
“I don’t accept payments in LEK, I live in Athens, only Euro there. There’s a bank on the center of Himara, you can go exchange”
“You were here 3 days, you had all the time to exchange your money”
“Ok I will accept LEK but only at the buying rate, which is 1 euro to 122 LEK, but I will accept for 120” – the rate that day was 1 euro – 117 LEK
“You Albanians are the only who cause trouble, don’t come back”
All this for a 25 m2 room, ground floor, literally 10 meters from the main road, with a smelly toilette.
Last minute reservation for 2 adults and 1 toddler, 45 euro/overnight only, that we accepted and managed to enjoy afterall. The owner took the money and gave no receipt.
Pity and shame for such small people who thinks that hospitality is a clean bed and air conditioning.
Below the detailed version:
Stayed at this guest house for 3 nights on the end of July with my family. The room we got was probably the last one, quite small but since it was a last minute reservation we decided it was ok. It had all the necessary, but good only for sleep/rest. No space for other. The toilette was smelly but closing its door fixed the issue
Our room was at the ground floor facing the inner courtyard and the main road. The guests hang out till late and the vehicles are noisy. Lucky for us we (and especially my toddler) can sleep nevertheless. The property does not have rules (there are 6-7 rooms facing the courtyard/road) for late hours. But we managed to get through it regardless.
The real problem we faced was the policy of the property that accepts only Euro as payment, perhaps only cash. We had only LEK. This kind of policy was mentioned by them 1 day before our departure, even though we offered to pay in advance since the check in.
When we asked why such policy and why we couldn’t pay in Albanian LEK (the local currency), the owner answered that he lived in Athens and there’s only euro there. We found that answer quite unlogic since usually it’s up to the property resolving such issues. We thought that wasn’t such a big deal.
The unfortunate thing is that Himara has quite some traffic, and very few spots you can leave your car to reach the banks. They are located in the center, meanwhile our beach was about 20-30 min away by walk. So we decided it was not worth the time for such little hastle of converting the LEK into Euro.
Back to the hotel, we explained that we couldn’t get into the bank and here’s come the trouble. The owner got very upset about our request to settle the payment in Albanian currency, and claimed that we could’ve done it on the 3 days of our stay. We replied that he could get the conversion done himself. He claimed that that could be done but only by the buying rate and not the selling one, which by his claim was 1 euro to 122 LEK but he would do us a favor accepting for 120 LEK. We checked the rates on the websites showing it to him and the highest one was 1 euro to 117 LEK. But he still insisted that 120 was the correct value.
Perhaps the owner thought we were stupid or uninformed people. He just couldn’t understand that it’s the host that has to offer a service to the guests, not get things done from them. The feeling of a person who’s trying to literally steal such ridiculous small difference of money, and to treat others with plain arrogance is disgusting.
The discussion ended with him saying “you albanians always cause troubles, I will never accept you here again”. Pity and shame getting racism from your own countryman working in hospitality.
Last but not least, ask for a receipt for your payment. You will get surprised.

Worst hosting

I secured the phone number from a friend who stayed there, reserved, they confirmed the date, place and time of check in.
They called me only 12-14 hours before the check in time to tell me that they reserved the room for someone else and we couldn't go! I explained my dissapointment but their reaction to it was surprisingly rude, saying that they dont owe me anythig! Really unbelievable behaviour, it ruined my vacation mood!
