A timeless place to discover absolutely
So, just before arriving at the castle, you are still in this world, then you begin to climb the path of the Guindalos hills, it is then that the entrance gate can be seen in the distance.
Finally, you pass this to enter the 15 hectare park.
From there, you will reach the entrance to the castle in a few minutes which will seem strangely very long, but already the magic of the place is at work, and a feeling of tranquility comes over you.
We are welcomed by Evgenia, the mistress of these places, she completes our first impressions wonderfully, we are so gratified by her friendliness, kindness, and benevolence.
This castle has a very beautiful architecture, the staircase which goes up to the rooms is majestic, the billiard room (American) where the fireplace sits is very pleasant, the cement tiles of yesterday's garden are very beautiful, and what was restored was done with the best taste.
During breakfast, a deer walking in the park a few steps away delighted us…
One of the windows of our room opens onto the castle of Pau (that of Henry IV), while through the other, the Pyrenees reveal its sumptuous reliefs. The rooms are functional and beautifully decorated.
Finally, Elena, who supported Evgenia wonderfully, is absolutely efficient and kind.
For the record, Gelos Castle dates from 1872, its architect Charles le Coeur also worked with several Parisian high schools including Louis Le Grand.
The Perissé family (Ghislain and Evgenia) has owned the estate since 2004 and carried out restoration work on this architectural gem for 20 years, whose golden ratio draws the proportions (for math enthusiasts, it is the positive root of the quadratic equation x²-x-1=0 ;-).
Today it is a 5* furnished tourist accommodation and a venue for events.
What more can I say…you absolutely have to go there otherwise you’ll miss out on a great experience.
