Not a Mercure standard

Mixed stay at the Mercure Perpignan.
The staff is very professional and welcoming, and the breakfast is truly excellent, varied, and generous. The location is also a real strong point, right in the center of Perpignan, which is very convenient for visiting the city.
On the other hand, we were disappointed by the room, which was very small, as well as by some damaged furniture that does not reflect the image and standard usually associated with Mercure hotels. It is also a shame that the hotel parking lot is not free.

Correct business hotel in central Perpignan

Acceptable hotel in the center of Perpignan, simple rooms, correct breakfast. Friendly personnel, good for business stays.

Mediocre

Old-fashioned room. Inattentive staff. No room service and the option offered outside was closed. If you arrive around 3:00 PM or earlier, arm yourself with patience because you will have to share the only small elevator with the housekeepers who are struggling with the resources made available to them that are quite questionable... if you have a loyalty plan, don't expect it to be respected too much, as a sense of service is not the major quality of this hotel. In short, Mercure price and (bad) Ibis services... I do not recommend.

Absolutely not worth it

This hotel simply does not deserve its four-star rating.
I was offered a complimentary upgrade to a duplex suite, but I declined it after seeing the room. The extremely steep and narrow staircase has to be used repeatedly throughout the day, and I found this to be an unnecessary safety risk. I would strongly caution prospective guests before accepting this type of room, especially if they have luggage or reduced mobility. On top of that, the upper level was dark and uncomfortably hot. What was intended as an upgrade actually felt like a downgrade.
The underground parking garage is one of the worst I have ever experienced. There are only six parking spaces. Unless you drive a very small car, I would strongly advise against using it. For anything larger than a VW Golf, maneuvering is extremely difficult and, in many cases, practically impossible. Every wall, pillar, and corner is covered with scratches and paint marks, clearly showing that many drivers have already hit the concrete. Even worse, if all six parking spaces are occupied, a car larger than a Smart has no chance of getting out because there is simply not enough room to maneuver. I have never seen anything like this in a hotel garage. If you value your car, park somewhere else.
The breakfast is frankly embarrassing for a four-star hotel. I have had better breakfasts in virtually every Ibis hotel I have stayed at in France. The selection was extremely limited, with no tomatoes, no salad, no vegetables—nothing. It simply does not meet the standards one should expect from the Mercure brand.
The condition of the hotel is equally disappointing. The bathroom showed visible mold, which is completely unacceptable. Even worse, the window frames looked as if they had never been cleaned. Thick layers of dirt had obviously accumulated over a very long time. Even the complimentary toiletries were not replenished after the first night and remained unreplaced until I checked out two days later. The hallway carpets were heavily stained and filthy, adding to the overall impression of a neglected and poorly maintained property.
The air conditioning barely worked, making the room uncomfortable, especially during the summer heat. To make matters worse, there was a strange rhythmic noise in my room throughout my stay. I have no idea where it came from, but it was constant and particularly disturbing at night.
The hotel has only one elevator, resulting in long waiting times during busy periods.
The refrigerator did not work properly, and the Wi-Fi was virtually unusable. The connection kept dropping, forcing me to log in again every few minutes. Even basic internet use became frustrating.
Overall, this hotel deserves no more than one star. I am giving it two stars solely because of the staff. Everyone I encountered was genuinely friendly, polite, and helpful. Nils at the reception deserves special recognition. He is outstanding—professional, highly committed, customer-oriented, and one of the very few highlights of this stay.
Unfortunately, excellent employees cannot compensate for a hotel that is so poorly maintained and falls so far below the standards of the Mercure brand. The staff deserves praise; the hotel management does not. I have stayed in many Mercure hotels around the world, and this was easily one of the most disappointing. I genuinely cannot understand how this hotel still carries a four-star rating. I would strongly recommend choosing another hotel in Perpignan.

A well-located Mercure... but clearly under very stormy weather

A well-located Mercure... but clearly under very stormy weather.
Upon our arrival, the receptionist explains to us with almost military seriousness that it is imperative to respect our parking space number. The message is clear: here, parking is a matter of state.
The next morning, surprise! A tiny white car sits proudly... in our spot.
First encounter with the manager: gaze fixed on the ground, closed face, not a hello, not a smile. We wondered if we had become invisible or if we had just entered a bad mood contest.
Second encounter, at the bar this time. We are witnessing a scene worthy of a comedy: the waiter, very kindly, apologizes for no longer having peanuts to offer with the aperitif. Fatal error! The poor man gets lectured publicly by the Manager, in front of stunned guests. We were unaware that a peanut shortage could trigger a diplomatic crisis.
From that moment on, we developed almost a survival reflex: discreetly checking that the manager was not in the vicinity before crossing the lobby.
And then comes the grand finale, the fireworks, the grand climax: the mysterious little white car that had been occupying our parking space from the beginning... belonged to the manager herself!
In other words: guests must follow the rules... except for the person who imposes them.
Before writing this review, we preferred to report the situation to the Accor group, thinking that such behavior deserved at least a reaction. Response received? Absolute silence. Clearly, customer service also practices the art of invisibility.
In the end, this manager achieves a rare feat: reprimanding her staff in front of guests, welcoming the latter with the warmth of a prison door, and, to top it all off, appropriating their parking space.
The moral of the story? Guests come and go, managers stay... until the day the guests move on for good.
