Excellent Stay
Had an excellent stay at Solan Retreat. The owner, Mr. Jain, was extremely supportive and ensured everything was smooth throughout our visit. The staff was very helpful, especially Mr. Mohit, who went out of his way to assist us.
The rooms were clean and well-maintained, and the in-house food was fresh and tasty. The garden offered lovely views, making the overall experience even more pleasant.
Highly recommended for a comfortable and relaxing stay!

Romantic getaway, great views
Such a nice place to stay in. Visited it with my husband this year and had an amazing time. We visited from Bombay for 3 days, took a flight from Chandigarh and drove 1.5 hours to the hotel.
Every room has a fireplace and the staff is really lovely. We played badminton in the lawn and went on hikes daily.
Breakfast was yummy and room was very cozy

Gorgeous property and helpful staff
Loved our time here. The location is beautiful, every room is super comfortable. Amazing old world charm and Victorian era architecture. Beautiful garden with a lovely view of the town. Had hot delicious aloo paratha for breakfast

Truly a Retreat
The property is located very close to the Solan Railway Station on the Mall Road itself. If you are driving, you can take the circular road and reach right next to the property and if you are walking up, as most people do on the hills, taking the stairs close to the Vishal Mega Mart take you just about 5-10 minutes from the Railway Station. The owner was kind enough to guide us about the approach well in advance. It was helpful since the navigation on the hills using the electronic maps is a bit tricky as the height and distance falter in such.
The property is on a small hill top overlooking most of Solan and the adjoining hills around. The scenery is breathtaking from the beautiful garden in the property, where you can sit and enjoy over a cup and during winters around the fire. The building is colonial and well kept.
The rooms are neat and clean with large King Sized beds where you can assemble, chat, play or rest as you like. Bed linen was fresh. Great for big family outings too with plenty of space to play around. The bathrooms are hygienic and the towels were dry cleaned and wrapped in a wrap to keep them fresh. Cable TV with a small LCD TV if at all you wish to see that is available but who wishes to watch the rants on the TV when you are in such a place. The sleep quality was great with no noise or disturbing lights around.
Caretaker Gopal is pleasant and serves good tea on demand and prepares meals as you desire. He made very delicious food. The owner, Mr Vishal Jain was also around and it was a treat to meet him and be hosted by him. He is a pleasant person and looks after your needs and tries to mend if there are any issues. He was presently trying to upgrade the facilities in the property to make it still better. Remember, it is a home where you rent rooms and be assured you would be looked after as we were.

Can't recommend
After searching in Google & wanted to experience homestay in Solan, we booked this Jan House in Solan. Originally price looked high but after negotiating with Mr.Vikash, it was settled. He highly praised about this villa & I also assured of good review if satisfied.
After reaching Solan from Chandigarh airport, it took sometime to find out the location. Caretaker Mr Gopal took the trouble to come down about 500 ft to guide us.
It is located top of a hill near a school. Road is so narrow that only one car can move at a time.
After getting down from the car, again we had to get down through staircase. Though our arrival was informed well before but no room was ready. One housekeeping lady who came few minutes earlier was cleaning rooms. Total about 10/12 rooms were there but no separate attached bath. A back side good lawn is there. Building is very old & not maintained properly. Small insects are everywhere. Only one person, Gopal is resident attendant but his family is not working there. Food is mainly purchased from the outside.
Most surprising is that Gopal has no say regarding pricing of food. For every matter, has to call owner in Kolkata to order or to know the price. Ridiculous. Owner has no faith on his staff. Instead of advising him, owner was calling us again & again.
Location is such odd that nowhere can visit on foot.
For big party, it may be good but not for small family or couple.
