Writing this to correct reviews for wrong property

There are many reviews here for the wrong Senkei property. This is the one with an elevator that takes you to the 4th floor (where we stayed), and you walk briefly outside and up some stairs to the outdoor onsen (which is amazing). We had the traditional room with futons for beds. We found them too thin, but there were 4 in the room, so we doubled up and were fine. The rooms are dated; e.g. sink area, and peeling fake wood wallpaper in toilet area. The rest was fine, and we liked the traditional aspects to it. We did not have the breakfast & dinner, as we are not seafood fans. It is an easy walk (10-15 mins) from the station; it rained on our departure day, so we took a taxi back for ¥780. 5 star experience in a 3.5 star property. Value for money was good not great, but probably the best value in Hakone that we could find.

Misleading photos; they do not match reality

The photos of the room I booked—as shown on their website—do not match the actual room I got. I had booked a Japanese-style room with two terraces and a view of nature, but instead, I found a room where the view was blocked by a reed screen just a meter away from the window; it felt totally claustrophobic. I felt completely misled. There is no Wi-Fi in the room either; although they advertise "free Wi-Fi," the signal doesn't reach the rooms. The room was old and very worn. The bathroom was ugly, outdated, and had rust stains—again, nothing like what was advertised online. Worst of all, I found a cockroach in the women's indoor onsen. It was a very unpleasant experience, especially when you are naked and barefoot. It isn't worth the high price; there are much better hotels in the area. I wouldn't stay here again.

uncomfortable experience

Unfortunately the drawbacks greatly outweighed the positives.
On the plus side: the grounds are beautiful, the meals are very traditional (of course many people will *not* want that every meal), and the onsens are excellent (hot, clean, beautiful).
The staff here is *extremely* involved in guests daily activities. They would enter our room unannounced and "arrange things" for half an hour while we often wanted to be left alone. It was almost impossible to get staff to leave. They would talk to us while in the washroom, and seemed oddly invasive.
Yet very oddly, they completely ignored one member of our family. The staff was very kind to all of us yet unexplainably rude to just one of us. Other family members were given small gifts and greetings, while one was very bizarrely unacknowledged. It made us all uncomfortable and was just bizarrely rude.
So between the intrusive long visits to our room and the strange ignoring of one family member, we did not overall have a relaxing stay. I would not return.

It was great.

Every weekend I travel to Lake Kawaguchi and Hakone, but somehow I had never been here. It was a unique old building, but the rooms were very nice because they were special rooms that had been renovated. The outdoor bath in the room was the best. The problem is that you have to go out once to the public bath.
His diet is quite good. The ryokan that serves egg cakes for breakfast was quite rare and nice.

Loved this place...

Loved our stay at Senkei. Welcome was so friendly and helpful when we arrived. Room was very traditional Japanese accommodation, exactly as we hoped and the outdoor onsen was a real treat.
Thank you for a great experience...
