A very nice place with a lot of character and lovely decoration. Perfect central location on a main street, very close to everything. A bit noisy though in the mornings. Dot expect 5* comfort, but the place is very clean and really CHEAP to stay there. The price is corresponding to what you get. Staff is available in the mornings, and the young Italian lady who met us was very nice and helpful. There are a few things which are surprising (narrow stairs, small windows), but in a 400 year building - part of the Augustinian Monastery - that is exotic and you will love it.

Don't stay here. Unpersonal, unwelcoming, very basic.

I was really disappointed to see what I had booked.
This is the weirdest hostel I have stayed in ever, there is no staff, lights go out automatically and way to fast. (Toilet, you can't even sit in the "living room" for 2 minutes without the light going out). Which makes it al very unpleasant, very unpersonal.
On top of it the place hardly has any decent windows, which makes it feel like a prison.

Good enough

My first visit was in April, I've stayed there for a week with 2 friends. Fortunately there were only 3 other guests at the same time, so no problems (no queuing) with bathrooms. There might be an issue if dormitory is fully booked, because there are only 2 bathrooms (shower and toilet in the same room). It would be a very good idea to seperate toilets and showers, but I guess it's hard to make any reconstructions in this kind of old buildings. Other problem that may occur is no small lights beside beds, so when you enter the room you have to switch on the main light and wake up other people. In our room it was impossible to keep the light on, because it was switching off itself after 2-3mins, which is quite frustrating.
Very nice building, loved the paintings on walls, balconies, and this weird kind of ambience. I don't think there's a need of a common room, as for me this type of place should provide comfy bed, clean bathroom and kitchenette (there's only fridge and a kettle). I had everything I needed and I'm going back in July. There's no reception, but the staff provides you with all important information before you arrive and they are very helpful.

Bad comfort at an exaggerated price

This must have been one of the worst hostels I have been to anywhere.
There are only two bathrooms, including toilets. When somebody takes a shower, the floor easily gets completely wet and other people will inevitably step onto the wet ground when wanting to go to the toilet afterwards, leaving a big mess.
They claim to have a 'dining' room, which really is nothing more than two tables and a few chairs. But the thing is there is no kitchen besides a fridge not even a kettle or some forks and spoons. So this is totally not handy if you want to self-cater during your stay.
Additionally, it is true that the individual 'rooms' do not have doors!!! This means that everybody who lives on a higher floor than you will walk through your room at any given time in order to get to their bed. This also means that if you're unfortunate enough to sleep on the first floor, you have zero noise protection from the bathrooms and common room downstairs. This is so odd!
Also there was no light switch in our room. When walking up the stairs an automatic light goes on, but it shuts off as soon as you're in the room. So as soon as sun sets, you will need your own torch light.
And, in case you're not willing to pay an extra 3 euros per night just to rent a locker, there is no storage available, other than just throwing your backpack in the middle of the room. Not very convenient to navigate if all of your fellow travellers do the same and you have no light.
Last but not least, there is zero hostel atmosphere as there is no reception or common activities. Everybody in the place is just kind of to themselves.
In conclusion, the price of 30 Euros is definitely way too much for what you get. There are plenty of other accommodation options in Valletta (and Valletta is so small, that there really is no such thing as a bad location), which offer much more service and comfort for little more money.

Pratical but not the best value

I did not find a hostel with dormitory in Valletta but this one. It is very practical as it is situated in Valletta and 5 minutes away from the main bus stop. Also it was clean enough but:
- No reception.
- No real common room => no special atmosphere. it is a place to sleep and that's all.
- The key to a locker is to be rented for an additional 3Euro. It is not possible to use your own padlock for the locker. And these "paying" lockers are not at the same floor as the dormitories.
- There is no door to the dormitories... which are more like areas with bunk beds crossed by the stair to other floors. => so in the night people going to the floor above go through the area where you are sleeping.25€/night is a bit excessive for the value. But to be honest, it is a great location.
If you don't mind taking the bus to go to Valletta I would not recommend this place.
