Good service

Stayed 4 nights at this hostel and can definitently recommend it. The hostel is clean, the kitchen is good and the service from the staff are very good. They helped me alot, since I was new in New Zealand.

Nothing good about it

This is the worst place I have ever stayed at in Auckland. They don't state it in their listing but the hostel is in a basement with a club above it on one side and a retail store on the other. Both places play music day and night. LOUD music. The club plays their music during club hours. So, 2am you can hear loud music while the ceiling vibrates with speakers on top of it. Imagine trying to sleep next to a giant speaker in a club and that's it exactly. The manager is very nice and tries to be accommodating but there's nothing he can do about the location. Of course, if they included that fact in their listing- nobody would stay there. Virtually everyone who works there is from South America so Spanish speakers are allowed to be as loud and obnoxious as they want. The issue is it's a small place and they take up the common areas and the kitchen at all hours and are quite loud. They know they can do whatever they want so they just ignore the other guests and behave as loudly and rudely as they want. However, for the short time the manager is there during the day, they behave. That's it though. Between the obnoxiously loud constant yelling in Spanish and the nightclub blasting music nightly, this is not a place to rest, relax, sleep or feel comfortable. There are plenty of other less expensive places in the city centre to choose to stay. Please learn from my mistake and literally stay anywhere else to avoid the stress and frustration.

Hard to find a positive when there isn't one

I stayed with 2 friends in November. First off,for 4 nights it cost us $300 each. One bunk in our room wasn't screwed together properly,so I moved my mattress to the floor. Our room had a heat pump letting out warm air,there was no remote to change the temp and the room had no windows.so we had to do a mignight run to Kmart to buy a fan. This resulted in getting home and becoming sick. There were various health and safety risks. Water leak next to electrical, no clear path in the event of an emergency. In terms of cleanliness. We took photos of hair on the shower walls and they were there 2 days later. The toilet paper was barely refilled.so we had to go buy some. Considering the were cupboards under the sink that could hold upto 50 rolls you would think it would be logical to stock up.
Would never stay there again. And I wouldnt recommend that you do either

Worst place I've ever stayed. The hostel is underneath a NIGHTCLUB thumping music till 4am. Then it's also next to a dance studio and loud shops so you can expect loud music from 10am till 4am!!! No peace. Staff didn't apologies or care when I complained.
There was a leak outside our room and a wet bucket underneath (that's right the place was LEAKING)
No toilet roll in the night and they didn't even provide a duvet!!!! No duvet! Only a thin throw

LAMENTABLE

Es un sitio lamentable y muy deprimente. Todo sótanos sin ventanas y al lado de una discoteca por lo que es imposible dormir allí. Nos tuvimos que ir a otro cuando, tras aguantar un rato el olor a cañerías y la humedad, a las 20 empezó una música infernal de la discoteca de al lado
