Quirky and friendly.

I stayed at Paramata Lodge for one night only. The house is partly made of reclaimed timber and has numerous family made wooden sculptures and paintings. My upstairs room had views of forest and mountains with glimpses of the ocean. The room was spacious with a decent sized ensuite. Comfortable bed.
There is an overgrown path leading to the beach (10 minute or so walk) via a sheep paddock. Cedric the ram was very sociable. The beach was long and deserted. I went for a quick dip (water cool but refreshing) before wandering along the beach and back to the house.
Dinner is optional (I would recommend) and on that day consisted of rack of lamb, potatoes and saldi with a raspberry crumble cake and raspberry ice cream for desert. Most of the ingredients came from the garden or paddock. It was all very good but the ice cream was especially delicious.
A cooked breakfast the next day was delicious.
The Lodge is a bit out of the way but I’m glad that I stayed there.

A perfect stay

I totally agree with all the comments. Neil and Cathy are two lovely hosts, their house is gorgeous, you feel right at home. Cathy cooks superb breakfasts. It's a restful stopover with a wonderful beach to walk on. One of our best stops in New Zealand, which will remain in our memories.

This is a B&B, not a “Lodge”

Heads up - this isn’t a “Lodge” which implies a separate housing structure. You are literally staying in an extra bedroom in their house. They are in another bedroom also upstairs. If you choose to pay extra and have dinner, you eat WITH them at their kitchen table. Which is fine, if that’s what you choose. We were surprised, to say the least. They are lovely people but we definitely felt mislead.

Peaceful, Pristine & Priceless !!!

The Perfect place to get away from it all, relax and soak in nature on long walks and peaceful evenings. From the moment we arrived, Neil & Kathy were delightful Hosts, wonderful to talk with, as they also gave us our privacy. Their home is art you live in, with incredible views from all of our windows, which were plentiful! Long walks on the Beach, never seeing anyone else, only seals and also sheep & cows along the road to their home, it was spectacular!! Kathy made excellent breakfasts for us each day, and we enjoyed our delicious dinner & wine, everything tasted incredibly fresh! Their company, a true gift. A special part was walking through their enormous yard, and glancing out a window, to discover beautiful sculptures & artwork, some take your breath away, others make you smile & laugh. Neil, who is so kind and gracious, is the artist!!! He has an amazing gift, and thankfully, it's there for us to enjoy and be inspired by. This is the perfect place to get away from every day life, release the stress and enjoy life fully. That reminds me, the bed & bedding was fabulous, we slept fantastic every night, we really caught up on our much needed sleep.
We look forward to returning again soon!!
Thank You Neil & Kathy!!!

Pure New Zealand--South Island

Staying @ Paramata Lodge with hosts Kathy & Neil was an absolute delight! The property & location were superb by every metric--our breakfast, dinner & many conversations with Kathy & Neil were interesting, educational & a total joy. We rank staying with Kathy & Neil as a high-point in our 5-week vacation in NZ, during which we stayed in 10-different premium accommodations. Thanks to Kathy & Neil for making us feel so welcomed.
