Amazon King in Iquitos ist nur wenige Schritte von Promenade Malecón Tarapacá und La Casa de Fierro entfernt. Diese Lodge ist 0,4 km von Kathedrale von Iquitos und 0,5 km von Plaza de Armas entfernt. Amazonas Rain Forest Adventure
I was staying with a Friend at the Amazon King Lodge in the Rainforest for 3 Days and 2 Nights. It was a nice experience, especially if you have never been to the jungle before. We went during the rain season, so we did most of the things via boat.
Our Guide, Wilson, was a funny guy and as he grew up in the rainforest, he had a lot of knowledge about the plants and the animals. We were a small group (2 guys, the guide and a trainee guide) and because of that we could do a lot of nice things and have a real good experience, better than in big groups.
The lodge itself was nothing special and a bit old and rural but that's a nice thing I guess, because you don't want a 5 star luxury hotel in the jungle. The staff was very nice and polite and the food tastes good.
Overall a good experience!

Mixed Emotions / buena y mala en el mismo tiempo
So we arrived to Amazon King Lodge by booking a tour with ...
Upon arrival to the lodge we werent happy as the bathrooms arent in great condition nor that clean. Our first room had a bed with a matress that was super uncomfortable and dipped down at both end and Towels apparently werent included either.
Also electricity was only to be provided 6pm-9pm (which makes sense in hindsight, but i dnt remember being informed of this whilst booking)
This really dampened our mood and we thought we had been duped.
But after talking with the administrator he provided us a one towel per couple and said he would provide us with power in the morning so we could make ourselves juice as this had been one of the things we had requested when booking the tour.
The administrator himself is a quiet man but is really nice and accomodating.
The food was basic but tasty. They seem to cook per group and each guide sets the meal out for his group.
Our tour guide was a local so knew the area really well and we had an amazing time in terms of the activities etc. (Daniel was his name)
Now a big thing to take note is that there are BEDBUGs and spiders/rats can still enter the rooms as they are not completely sealed off. DO NOT take the sign of mesh as conforting and relax your guard. I did and am paying the price. I recommend long sleep wear and bug repellant before you sleep!
Our best night was when we camped, in terms of comfort and shelter from bugs.
Overall the activites around the area are amazing but the lodge could use some love.

Perfect time. Prefect adventure. Thank you for your hospitality. We loved it. This was the real thing for us.
Beautiful amazon. Nice guides. Healthy and nice food. We get what we expected. Don’t expect luxuries hotel but a lodge in the Amazon where you get the real adventure.

Unscrupulous and dangerous
"Amazon King lodge" is also called "My Amazon lodge" (same company = same comment).
Beyond the fact that the tour in the national reserve (pacaya samaria) was far from what i was promised, they endanger their guests through their low quality standarts.
- first night in the Reserve in a Local comunity: the bar played loud music until 4 in the morning. Nobody could sleep.
- no hygiene : water in an uncealed bucket, unavoidably I got sick at day three. Disgusting beds and linen (see pictures).
- no staff : we travelled with a freelance guide.
- no first aid kit, neither first aid skills. The closest hospital is 3 hours away in motorboat. Is this even legal?
- no roof on the boat used during excursions despite the heavy sun : risk of insulation.
- Terrible infrastructure of the lodge (see pictures).
- bad logístics and coordination: guide was misinformed, we spent a lot of time waiting around.
Last but not least, this company underpays the local communities (guides, cooks...).

We are very sorry to hear the experiece you had we do the best to make you live a good experience with such a little money we charge for the trips we do traying to help people like you that come with such a very low badget for travel in to the amazon jungle and want the luxurious with the ridiculous price you all pay for a trip to the Amazon .
We try to do the best we can to help you and have a good experience and for the money you pay we give back to the communities around the places we work .

Unprofessional and unreliable jungle tours - spend your time and money elsewhere!
I booked a 2 day/ 1 night jungle trip and Ayahuasca session with Amazon King, and disappointing would be an understatement.
Here is what was promised - they said I’d be picked at my hotel at 9:00, taken to the port (a 10 min ride). And from there I would be introduced to an English speaking guide.
1. We would then go over the Nanay river (black water river) for 1 hour, to see the dolphins and probably some other animals. Then we would proceed to the jungle lodge an hour away.
2. Here we would make an excursion to see animals like - sloths, monkeys etc,
3. another excursion to see medicinal plants and birds.
4. A night excursion to look for nocturnal animals and tarantulas.
5. And then later in the night I would meet the Shaman and participate in the Ayahuasca ceremony.
6. And then the next morning we would have another excursion to see animals before lunch and then get back to Iquitos by 17:30.
Here’s what was delivered -
I was picked up at my hotel a little after 9:00 and taken to their office which was a 5 minute walk away. Here I WAITED (this trip involved a lot of waiting - so when I mention this, I mean more than 30 minutes). There was no English-speaking guide that they had promised (they said I will meet the guide directly at the lodge).
They took me to the port - here I WAITED!!
1. Then they skipped the tour of the black water river (no dolphins, no animals, no explaination) - they directly took me to the lodge - here I WAITED. When I said I am tired of waiting - they showed me a room full of hammocks, where they said I could ‘rest while I WAIT’ I got tired of resting and waiting, and complained again.
2. So they randomly sent me with some guy from their kitchen for an “excursion”. We could not communicate at all (although he was well-meaning and nice), so the little “excursion” involved me just following him in what seemed like someone’s uncared-for farm - there were houses, papaya trees and lots of banana trees (I am from India - I know what a jungle looks like). In about 10 minutes we came across the guide who was with another group for an excursion. Since they were towards the end of their excursion, and heading back, so did I (In summary my first “excursion” was 10 mins in a farm like route).
Then it was lunch time - after which I WAITED.
Then we went 5 mins out of the lodge to swim in the amazon river - this activity ended in 10 mins (due to the lack of interest of the participants - I would have rather preferred to trek in the jungle) and we were back in the lodge again - and I WAITED!
3. Then the guide realised my irritation, so he took me for an “excursion” which happened to be to a neighbouring village (15 mins away). He vaguely and disinterestedly pointed to some plants and explained their medicinal properties. We were back in less than 45 mins.
4. We skipped the night “excursion” because it was raining (it was more like a drizzle, not a real tropical rain). But the guide used that as an excuse to skip the excursion. Although I was equipped with rain gear, we had rubber boots and head-lamps.
5. Later in the night I was introduced to the shaman and the guide was acting as an interpreter. We went for the Ayahuasca ceremony that lasted for about 3hours. It was a good experience overall, but I had no effect from drinking the Ayahuasca (except vomiting after 2.5 hours - I had no psychedelic or trance-like effects).
6. The next morning we were taken to an “excursion” that went through another village and then entered the forest (we walked about 10 mins through the village and 10 mins in the forest) as we reached a bridge (which were 2 logs placed across a little stream) that our guide thought was “unsafe” to cross - others were crossing it and I was more than willing to do the same (and we crossed something similar earlier) - so my conclusion would be that the guide was just lazy, uninspired and uninterested in his job (that made the whole experience all the more pathetic). After our 20 minute “excursion” we got back to the riverside and WAITED ! This time it was more than an hour of wait for our boat to pick us up (which never arrived - unprepared/ unprofessional/ unplanned). So our guide requested another group’s boat to take us along. And we had to again “WAIT” while the members of the other group swam in the river..
I had had enough of all the waiting, so I complained again. And then the guide said after lunch - in his words - “we can go out to the river to spot dolphins, fishing for piranhas, and a trek in the jungle to see sloths, monkeys, caiman and anacondas” We would have 1 hour to do all this.. he wanted to cram all the 2 day activities into one hour when I threatened to complain to the company. Anyways by then, I had lost all enthusiasm and patience due to all the ‘WAITING’, and told them to just get back to Iquitos after lunch (which we did).
I saw absolutely no animals!! I have been on jungle safaris and excursions before, and I do realise that spotting animals is a matter of chance. But I think we would have stood a better chance of seeing animals if we were doing a real 3-5 hour excursion in the jungle, instead of waiting all day in the lodge. To be fair - there are 2 dogs, 1 rooster and a couple of hens at the lodge (so you’d see some animals!!)
This was an extremely bad experience. As I mentioned earlier the company was unprofessional and made promises that were not kept (getting your money seems to be the only thing on their agenda).
The guides and other staff were polite, but inexperienced, unenthusiastic and seemed bored by their job (they definitely wished to be elsewhere).
Overall - I would not recommend this company at all. Spend your time and money somewhere else, unless ‘WAITING’ is your most preferred activity!!
PS: When I complained at the agency in Iquitos, they returned half the amount that I had paid for the tour (but that doesn't bring back the lost time)!!
