The Dom Sonata property is located on the campus of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk, 400 meters from the Old Town.

Great place
It's in a great place of city - close to the oldtown, I say about 7 min. walking. Clean and bright room, place for the car. The only difficulty that none of the three receptionists who changed during our stay talked english nor russian. Otherwise, if I go to Gdansk again, I would stay here.

I would prefer to stay somewhere else
We were on a road trip and had to book the day before since we didn't know our programme exactly.
Compared to other cities we visited Gdansk is more touristy and therefore we got what we paid for.
The rooms obviously are dorm rooms and you can tell by the decoration and dirty walls.
The bed was OK and for one night the only thing that mattered to me was sleep which I did not enjoy since there were two windows on the ceiling and light came in at 6 o clock in the morning and woke me up.
So my advice is, if you are visiting Gdansk book your stay beforehand to find something better.
Or if you decide you want to stay here don't get a room on 4th floor. My room number was 500 something on 4th floor and I guess all the rooms are like that there.
Also we didn't know that the entrance of the building wasn't on the road but we had to enter a parking (which was free).
As a first timer in Poland I would book a night in Sopot as well.
Just saying :)

Cheap but dirty
Not impressed with dirty walls and shower, after the visit there I went straight to the pharmacy to buy something to prevent fungus on feet. Look at the photos. If the hotel serves as student accomodation through academic year, they should clean the rooms properly, don't just rent it out looking like this.

2 star rating, not terrible but below average
Two night stop in Gdansk so needed a hotel close to the town. Dom Sonata only 4 tram stops away.
Started well, initial appearance very good. However although the Room was large and full of furniture it had single beds only.
General appearance in side is very poor, dark corridors and unused, unwanted furniture and bath fittings litter every corner of the building.
Dining area, scruffy and uninviting, continental offerings only at breakfast and straight from the budget isle.
It was cheap though £30 per night so you get what you pay for.
2.5 rating I would say would have been a 3 if the room had a double bed.
Ideal for same sex parties on cheap weekend.

Would come back but consider location
Stayed here for four nights as a couple. Absolutely massive room with three single beds in (we pushed two together) and a very decent sized bathroom. Sheets felt a little damp on occasion and the curtains let in a lot of light but otherwise sound.
Breakfast varied from day to day (buffet on some occasions, plates made up on others) and consisted of cheese, ham, and egg separately or in some combination thereof. Partner is a veggie and was restricted to bread and jam but have not stayed anywhere in Poland where this isn't the case.
Hotel staff were absolutely lovely and spoke very good English. Wifi was also absolutely sound.

The one thing I would encourage others to think about is the location. The hotel is very close to the centre of Gdansk (10mins tops) but we were both of the opinion that our parents (in their 60s) wouldn't walk in as you're a little out of the way and need to go down a couple of darker side roads before crossing the river into the town itself. There was never any indication that it was unsafe but still. If you're unconcerned by such things it's wonderful!
Finally, the taxi driver at the train station couldn't find the hotel so it's well worth remembering that it's in the actual music academy. Once you get your bearings it's a 30 minute walk across town to the station.
