Nothing to remember

Hostel Barno is what enough for one- night stop away. Reception- lady was helpfull, the rooms clean. The house itself is coming from socialism and looks so 100%. No breakfast, shared bathrooms, not comfortable beds. Next restaurant 300 meters (not 150!), next market 500 meters. Two good things: free parking and lift.

Very nasty place

A horrible place, there are no lights in the corridors, the beds are not laid out and look very bad, the shower is broken. There were disgusting feelings
Ужасное место, в коридорах нет света, кровати не застелены и выглядят очень плохо, душ поломан. Остались отвратительные ощущения

Large lump of concrete walk away from downtown

For someone born in a communistic country it can be a trip back to childhood but for casual international travellers - you've got to take it from a distance. Things that I like here are: it's large so usually you are able to book a room even when all other places are full; reception is open 24h and it’s not a problem to arrive at 3am (as we did); it’s old (as ugly) but clean (also toilets and linens); it’s got quite some cars parking space in front, most of which in shadow; it’s got a small working elevator inside (but few steps at the entry doors); free WiFi worked well for me; it far enough from main street to be comfortably quiet and last not least it’s 1.5km (15 minues walk) from the Hlavna Street which is the main town’s promenade. On the down side: take your own toilet paper & soap as there is none in your room; expect some of your bed linens to be torn (despite being well cleaned & ironed); bring cash rather then plastic and be prepared to pay before you get the keys; no need to call police when you see rough faces entering the building with you – they are seasonal workers in Kosice – polite and peaceful; there is no common room or even a board for tourists so no chance to team up with other travellers; no safe in room or reception; cleaners may enter your room unprompted while you are away; ladies at the reception behave exactly like they did during communism – formal and arrogant, like they were a kind of police rather then servant. Prices are average – at this rate I slept in a very comfortable, family run villa in Poland as well as disgusting, full of bugs and noisy pseudo-hotel in London. For me, this place is winning for being clean, quiet and close to the old town.

Very old and simple

It is quite clean, but very old and needs renovation. Beds are very old and not comfortable. Carpets and walls are dirty. Bathroom is old and little bit dirty.
Breakfast is poor, but tasty.
Bus stop is 5 minutes walking.

Rather dreadful

Hostel Barno is a very basic and bare bones hostel slightly outside the center of Kosice.
It is of course cheap and serviceable, but very few positives.
Rooms are clean, if very basic. Bathrooms often are shared (two 4 person rooms share one bathroom - so one bathroom for 8 people)
Wifi is free, but signal is very weak (at least on the fourth floor where I stayed).
Meals are very basic.
Lady at the front was quite rude, if not downright hostile. She also spoke no English.
Spend a few more Euro and get a nicer place than this.
