Lovely hotel. Great rooms and spectacular rooftop terrace. Ideal location for exploring Girona.
Hotel has two room categories- 3 star and 4 star - I stayed in a balcony room 3 star. All rooms share the hotel facilities - lobby, bar, rooftop terrace etc ....

In my opinion - not a 5 star hotel and has a rude barman
Location - very close to the old town, and reasonable walking distance to the main train station.
Breakfast - very good selection and fresh
Cleanliness - spotless room and bathroom
Downstairs cafe - 2 lovely ladies that were working in the bar made me the drink that the snobby barman on the roof terrace had refused (more about him later)
Now to the reasons why, in my opinion, this place falls short of being a 4 star hotel:
Room 113 or 'the cave' as we liked to call it - was dark and stuffy with a medium sized window overlooking a flat roof and some air conditing boxes. Towering over the window and blocking out the light were other buildings including a private balcony with a little old lady. It honestly made me feel claustrophobic especially as when we checked in the temperature in the room was 26C and we struggled to figure out how to make the AC fan work so the whole time the air felt very still.
The cheap touches - who puts 1-ply toilet paper in a 4 star hotel bathroom? Where do you even buy such rubbish? Possibly at the same store that sells the shower gel that doesn't foam up, which was also in the bathroom. Need to iron a shirt for a wedding? Sorry, no irons or boards available in the whole hotel, but there's an expensive ironing service which may or may not return your items in time, no guarantees given by reception... no thanks then.
If you get cold in the room, theres a duvet, but it doesn't have a cover, just the duvet... like you might find if you were staying on someone's sofa unexpectedly. Not in a 4 star hotel... yuk.
The barman - one of the reasons I booked this hotel was for the stunning roof terrace. And the view is really lovely. The bar opens at 6pm and as we got there at 6.04pm it became apparent that we were unexpected by the 2 barmen who were still stocking the fridges with bottles of wine. They immediately made us feel unwelcome. At first ignoring us, then telling us to sit down and they will take our order when they're ready. When I explained we had a taxi coming, could we just order now, one of the guys sighed and said ok. My husband ordered a Moscow mule from menu. I said "can I please have a Tinto de Verrano?" To which the barman said NO. At first I thought he was joking, standing there in front of a full wall of gleaming bottles of alcohol.. but I was wrong. The guy was actually refusing to serve me what is essentially red wine and lemonade. I tried again "ermm ok... how about a Sangria?"... NO came the answer. So we turned and left, but not before I told him that in 46 years of being on God's green earth and staying in hotels around the world never had i been refused a drink by a barman.
Unfortunately he wasn't the only staff members who seemed to have skipped customer service training. The people on reception never even looked up when you walked in, let alone a smile or a hello. And when we checked out, no one even asked how our stay had been. Just as well I suppose as I would've missed my train listing all the reasons why I won't come back.

The staff were friendly and couldn't help enough. Parking onsite.
Food and drink (roof top bar) were good - if we return to Girona, we'll not bother looking at any other hotels - this will be the one for us.
