Friendly Staff but Disappointing Experience

Wife and I were here for 2 nights in Jan.
This isn't a hotel, it's more a hostel with private rooms for backpackers. If you want comfort, do yourself a favor and book a nicer hotel for twice the price up the road. I am not sure why they had such great reviews on booking.com. It wasn't comfortable asides from the friendly staff.
First, let's talk about the lies. This hotel claimed they have free parking that required reservation. It is not true. They have one parking space on the street that I was not even sure if it was legal, it was painted red. They promised me it was fine, and I didn't get a ticket so there was that. I also had to fight for it over communications which I should have taken as a bad sign, I read and write mandarin so it was easier for me to communicate. I can only imagine how hard it would be for those that don't speak the language. They also claim they have free breakfast which was another lie. What we got was $50 NTD per person per day as a voucher for a chained hamburger place down the street called Hong Ya Hamburger. Just coffee itself will cost you $50NTD. Is it a big deal overall? No, it wasn't food was inexpensive. But is lying a big deal? Yes it is.
Our check in process was simple but it had a hiccup. No one was there, so we had to wait a bit. Thankfully the girl that was waiting for us only left temp. to the convenient store. But apparently I was supposed to call to check in, so it was def. not tourist friendly. Although I have free cell phone services in Taiwan thanks to T-Mobile US, this is another thing people should be aware of. The girl was super friendly and very accomidating, which was a plus. I felt bad leaving such terrible review because of how nice she was. But, people need to know what to expect.
We were given a room with a giant walked out balcony. The bed was clean at least. We dropped off our stuff on the table and left to exploer the city. We came back 4 hours later finding ants crawling all over our stuff. We had to go out and buy natural bug spray and cleaned everything we owned inside and out to make sure we don't take any unwanted critters home. We ended up bringing all of our stuff back to the car after we cleaned it thoroughly to prevent who knows what and regret it later. This was the first time in 53 countries that we traveled to that we debated if we should just leave and book another place.
Later that night we killed 1 cockroach about 1 inch long in the bathroom and another giant about 3 inches long that flies in the bedroom. I was from Taiwan, so I was semi-used to this, but my wife was not. Nonetheless, it was pretty gross. No one was at the front desk, they were only there to check us in. If we had a problem we had to call or txt. There were no sound proofing each room, people were very inconsiderate and loud. The bed was too soft you sink in. WiFi worked great with VPN. The bathroom had a foul smell that their solution was a vanilla scented diffuser and had mold all over the ceiling. We had the AC on full blast and the bathroom door closed because of the smell. We ended up endured it for 2 nights regretted being cheap and not recognized the signs since the place was really inexpensive and couldn't wait to leave.
We went back and forth alot to our cars since we didn't leave much of anythign in the room.
It was about a 20 minute walk to the city center, but close to the train station. Lots of hostels around the hotel, it's Hualien hostel neighborhood. We used the hotel as a base to go to Taroko National Park which was very convinient. Overall, we regretted our decision to be here, and will def. not be back.
