Much better than expected

I booked a Standard room at Versal Hotel Ternopil for 1 night from 21 September 2017. I was really disappointed by hotel’s photos on site, but my friend was going to celebrate his wedding at hotel’s restaurant and it was very convenient for me to stay here. The hotel is located in 5-7 minutes drive from Ternopil railway station, the taxi cost about 35 hryvnias (less than 1.5$).
The exterior of hotel is really pleasant, it has a free parking outside and backyard.
The reception girl was nice and allowed me to check in even earlier than 14:00. The biggest minus of Versal Hotel is that it does not have an elevator of luggage guy, so I had to carry my bag upstairs to the 4th floor by myself. So I do advice you to hire a porter to help your guests with their baggage.
So, I was ready to enter and spend 1 night at the old awful room in Soviet style. However, I was really glad to see small, but very comfortable and bright attic room. It has all necessary for 1-night stay - comfortable bed with clean bed linen and white towels, coffee table and cups, wardrobe, clean bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. There was no TV in my room, but I had an option to book a room with TV. An iron is available on request.
I can really advise you to stay at Versal Hotel Ternopil, especially considering its price – only 320 hryvnias per night (about 13$).
And I also ask the hotel to update the information and photos on the web-site, as your hotel is much better :-)

A very big hotel but very old .
The rooms really scream 1960. The sink in loose and it’s hard to stop the tap after using water. I had to ask for an extra blanket for not freeze to death. Very friendly staff thou.

looks better than it actually is

this hotel is far from center of city. and far from quality hotels
I stayed here for one night. half lux room number cost 360 uah
very big room with some useless furniture.
this hotel looks like new, but has worn towels already. just 2 towels for person.
Linens are too short.
water pressure in the bathroom is low.
walls are thin. You could easily hear what you neighbors doing
Breakfast from 9:00 and charged separately.
I cannot recommend this hotel, if you know what word "quality" means. even for this price

Simple quiet B&B with fabulous restaurant

Although accommodation options in Ternopil are limited, I was determined to avoid large and Soviet-style but centrally located Ternopil hotel (not my cup of tea). I failed to find any feedback on 3-star Versal hotel in the web, but its location by the city greenbelt (Zagrebillya Park) looked appealing to me.
BOOKING
Booked semi-lux [UAH 280 or ca USD35; fantastic value] by phone, with no advance payment requested. I believe we could have equally gotten a room with no booking: the hotel is either relatively new or not too well-known as there were just a few other guests there.
LOCATION
Ideal if you travel by car or a bike and/or seek quietness and isolation. The hotel sits slightly off (or rather under) Ternopil – Lviv highway and close to Ternopil – Berezhany road. It’s hard to miss this pink building as you drive by it. Vicinity to the road was not at all evident, at least not in the room facing the park; the birds’ singing was the only sound heard there.
The hotel is somewhat isolated from the rest of town; there are no entertainments or sights nearby, and it’s not in a walking distance to downtown. Ternopil Palace, Nadstavna (Over the Lake) Church and the other city landmarks are in a short drive away.
So if you are in Ternopil to explore the city and enjoy getting out and hanging around (as much as it’s possible in slow and sleepy Ternopil), you might want to stay closer to the city centre.
ROOM
Perfectly spacious for my liking, and very light. It had four windows, all facing the park, which looked like a forest from the hotel. The windows opened to the backyard with the restaurant summer terrace. Smell of pines and the birds singing created tranquil atmosphere of a country seat.
Room furniture and amenities were simple, even basic, and room decor was non-pretentious. But everything was clean and functioned properly. Two beds were joined together to imitate a king-size one. The mattress wasn’t ideal, yet thanks to the silence and the fresh air the sleep was truly fabulous.
There was a fridge and a TV in the room, but no AC (the latter is anyway not that necessary for the typical Ternopil weather). Limited number of electric sockets was the biggest inconvenience.
The bathroom was also large. It had a bath, with no curtain to separate it, and a small sink with a tiny shelf over it. It was clean, too, and all facilities functioned properly. There were only basic toiletries available, so better bring your own set of necessities.
Free WiFi in the rooms was of a mixed quality, but in principle ok.
RESTAURANT
This is second-best feature of the hotel after its tranquil location. It was absolutely perfect and the best out of all we tried in town. The prices were unbelievable for this quality; it was like eating out for free.
You can either sit in the large pretentiously decorated hall on the ground floor of the hotel building, or in the backyard in front of the park on the open-air ground with wooden huts, small pools and artificial waterfall and garden gnomes scattered all over the area.
Breakfast is not included into the room rate. There’s no buffet or set breakfast available, you can only order from the menu. Pancakes and omelette (scrambled eggs) with cheese were just delicious!
Unfortunately, waiting staff spoke almost no English, and there were no English menus available.
SERVICE
Services offered by the hotel are limited. Expect to only find bed and breakfast here rather than anything else.
Say, there’s no porter to assist with the luggage, and the hotel occupies several levels starting from the first floor (the restaurant sits in the ground one) and has no elevators, stairs only.
Housekeeping seems to be done by request. When we arrived, everything was clean and well done, but our room wasn’t made during the stay even once.
Room service (i.e. delivery from the restaurant) was available.
PARKING
Parking was for free. Paved spot right in front of the hotel entrance provided space for three cars, while the gravel lot by the side of the hotel could fit many more, if necessary.
RECOMMENDED, IF..
..you are looking for a good sleep in a quiet place and don’t require any special services or much comfort.
The hotel is quite basic; no posh at all. But it has spacious rooms, terrific restaurant, and offers great value for money.
