The hotel was everything me and my daughter needed for a three night stay in Bilbao.
The staff were helpful and friendly.

Unacceptable

This hotel has a lot of good attributes but there were two unforgivable issues that have unfortunately led to the one star rating. First, our room smelt of cigarette smoke, which was not surprising given the amount of cigarette ends deposited outside the window of our room and the adjacent rooms. Secondly, for dinner in the hotel’s restaurant my wife ordered a bolognese pasta, which came with no more than a spoonful of bolognese sauce. My wife rightly expected more than basically a plate of pasta so asked for more sauce. I had finished my meal by the time her plate returned with a decent amount of sauce. Rather than receiving an apology, the bill came with a bolognese sauce supplementary charge! I asked to see the manager but, of course, he didn’t have the courage to talk to me about it but simply authorised the waiter to remove the extra charge. No doubt the manager thought that I wouldn’t notice it on the bill. It was such a shame that two totally unacceptable experiences should mar the overall perception of the hotel.

This was a great place to stay for our first visit to Bilbao. The room was excellent and the staff were really helpful throughout. Yes, it is a short walk down to the old town but taxis are cheap and there is a metro nearby. Didn't use the pool as we were too busy in Bilbao but it was nice and lots of people in it. Would definitely come back.

Very nice and relaxing stay!

We enjoyed staying in Occidental hotel. It has been a pleasure! The hotel is not to far from the city centre, metro is nearby. The area of the hotel has enough good bars and the pool was a plus.

Loved our stay at Occidental! Convenient location, good vibe and our bartender David was awesome!! Will definitely stay there again when we return to Bilbao!
